Reading

Books I'm currently reading:

The Help - Kathryn Stockett

The Power of One - Bryce Courtenay

  1. This could so easily have been a 'compare and contrast' exercise. Two books with similar themes about racial tension and friendship prevailing amidst adversity - interestingly the friendships that endured were those that seemed the most unlikely.
Great characterisation in both books- among my favourites were Granpa Chook, Doc and of course Peeksy as well as Skeeter, Minny and Mae Mobbley.

'Prayer. It's like electricity. It keeps things going'
'Sadness has a season and will pass'
'The power of one was the courage to remain separate, to think through to the truth and not be beguiled by convention or the plausible arguments of those who expect to maintain power, whatever the cost'

  2. Now reading The Return by Victoria Hislop - It promises to be just as good and un-put-downable as her first novel, The Island.
