Writers at Coney - writing internationally

This is a great end to the writing year for our writing group - Writers @ Coney. A number of our stories are published today! The stories are based on extracts from late 19th century editions of 'The Down Recorder' and feature in the January/February 2016 edition of Celtic Life - on sale today!

When can you call yourself a writer?

Interesting article

As the party season gets into full swing, and we're meeting new people and talking about what we do, here's some good advice:

And this afternoon I learned that a project our writing group has been involved in will be published very soon!

On days like these I love being a writer :-)

Happy RLS day

Happy Robert Louis Stevenson Day! (and happy birthday to my wee big brother!)

What a wonderful way to celebrate a wonderful writer. To celebrate and remember him, some of his best quotes:

“I kept always two books in my pocket, one to read, one to write in.”
Robert Louis Stevenson, Essays of Robert Louis Stevenson

Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

“Life is not a matter of holding good cards, but of playing a poor hand well.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

One my aunt wrote in the autograph book I had as a child -
“A friend is a gift you give yourself.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

“You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

“Wine is bottled poetry.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

“The difficulty of literature is not to write, but to write what you mean; not to affect your reader, but to affect him precisely as you wish.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

“Everyone, at some time or another, sits down to a banquet of consequences. ”
Robert Louis Stevenson

NaNovWriMo challenge

I'm having fun stepping up to this year's NaNovWriMo challenge. We're almost half way through the month and I'm picking up some work I started a few years ago. I'm trying to write something every night, though its all too easy to get distracted, like now, updating my blog!
So, its just a short update, so I can get back to my novel....

It's so exciting, writing and letting the novel take you the direction it wants to go. It takes on a life of its own. Who knows where it will end up?

Back at Coney

Good to be back down at Coney Island again yesterday.

After our writing retreat a few weeks ago it was good to get back again. With wall to wall sunshine for two days, fabulous food and drink, great company, fun times and inspiration from each other we have all made significant progress in the writing we were working on.

And with potential interest in some of our work from a publisher we're feeling energised, revitalised, excited and raring to go! Now to get back to the writing......
